London, UK (PRWEB) January 25, 2012

India’s market for both diagnostic and therapeutic antibodies is expected to grow at a significant rate in upcoming years. More than 60% of the total antibodies market is currently dominated by diagnostic antibodies segment, which is more mature, has lower entry barriers and is extremely price sensitive. The country’s market for therapeutic antibodies, on the other hand, is still in its infancy and more than half of the globally launched therapeutic monoclonal antibodies are currently not even available. However, the market for therapeutic antibodies is expected to explode, with a CAGR of 27% in the next five years, driven by a rise in healthcare expenditures, increasing affordability, and a number of new product launches.

Kimberly Earle to Lead the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation

Kimberly Earle to Lead the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation

Sioux Falls, SD (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

Seasoned development, marketing and operations executive Kimberly Earle will serve as the inaugural President of the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation, a bold new organization dedicated to raising funds to advance breast cancer research and treatment. Formerly the Chief Operating Officer for Susan G. Komen for the Cure based in Dallas, TX, Earle sought to return to her passion, the fight against breast cancer. She most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) based in Irving, TX.

Recently established with a $ 100 million gift from entrepreneur and philanthropist Denny Sanford, Edith Sanford Breast Cancer seeks to revolutionize treatment and eradicate breast cancer. Named for Mr. Sanford’s mother, who died of breast cancer, the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation will undertake a major grassroots fundraising effort to accelerate personalized treatment and the search for cures. Television personality Mary Hart is a national spokesperson for the effort.

“I am thrilled about this tremendous opportunity to work on the frontier of the national breast cancer movement,” said Earle. “Edith Sanford Breast Cancer will touch the lives of so many women and men, and will stand apart in the fight against a disease that strikes all too often.”

While engaging a broad base of supporters across the country, the organization will pursue cutting-edge genomic research to discover which specific treatments will work for each patient, how to prevent the disease on an individual basis, and ultimately, how to put an end to breast cancer. Dakotas-based Sanford Health, the largest nonprofit rural healthcare provider in the country, will put its tremendous reach and expertise behind the effort.

“We are so excited to welcome Kimberly,” said Brian Mortenson, President of the Sanford Health Foundation. “She’s a visionary leader with a national reputation, a passion for this cause, and a track record of success leading national campaigns.”

Earle leaves MADD after rebranding the organization and accelerating its programs and fundraising efforts. Prior to joining MADD, Earle led the network of more than 120 Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliates across the United States. She also had responsibility for the organization’s legal, human resources, information technology and internal communications functions. Additionally, she was the Secretary and Board Member of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Advocacy Alliance, Komen’s Washington, D.C.-based policy organization. Prior to joining Komen, Earle was Vice President and General Counsel at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Earle received her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley. She has a Master of Arts in journalism/public relations from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish summa cum laude from The University of Alabama.

Local Plastic Surgeon Hosts Upcoming Evening of Beauty and Charity to Benefit Baby Ethan

Local Plastic Surgeon Hosts Upcoming Evening of Beauty and Charity to Benefit Baby Ethan

Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) January 20, 2012

Baby Ethan is a 2 and a half year old boy who was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. He had surgical intervention with a team in Florida to remove it and now has to undergo expensive chemotherapy treatment. However, since Ethan’s family has very poor health insurance coverage these necessary treatments will leave them thousands of dollars in debt.

Dr. Bradley Ashpole M.D. is a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He recently relocated his practice from Northwest Indiana to the Chicagoland area and will be hosting “An Evening of Beauty and Charity” on January 26th, 2012 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm to benefit children like baby Ethan.

“It’s all too often we see children with little or no health insurance and if it weren’t for community hospitals like our own Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago these kids wouldn’t receive the health care they desperately need. It breaks my heart, especially being a new dad,” states Dr. Ashpole.

“An Evening of Beauty and Charity” will help raise money for Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Raffle tickets will be sold for $ 5 each and prizes like Obagi Skin Care, Skin Medica, PCA Peels, Latisse Eye Lash Enhancement and more will be raffled. Our staff is dedicated to optimal care, where the patient comes first and excellence, honesty, and integrity combine to create a one-of-a-kind experience. Beauty stations set up at Chicagoland Aesthetics for “An Evening of Beauty and Charity” will transport patients to a spa-like atmosphere, which will ensure both a renewing and relaxing event for attendees. Skin care product sampling, demonstrations, and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine will also be served.

Dr. Ashpole and his staff at Chicagoland Aesthetics have joined Children’s Memorial Hospital’s “Circle of Friends” in order to help improve health care for disadvantaged children. “The best part about the event is knowing that patients will feel great on the inside by helping sick children and their families, while at the same time, my staff and I will help them to feel more beautiful on the outside,” Dr. Ashpole adds.

Chicagoland Aesthetics is located at 501 W. Golf Rd. in Schaumburg, IL 60159 right next to Starbucks at the intersection of Golf Rd. and Higgins. Please call Stefanie at (847) 884 – 8346 to RSVP or for additional information about our event.

New York City Physician Dr. Marina Gafanovich Talks Tom Brady, Football, and the Importance of X-Rays

New York City Physician Dr. Marina Gafanovich Talks Tom Brady, Football, and the Importance of X-Rays

Manhattan physician

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 03, 2012

Tom Brady does it again! Last week Tom Brady became the third quarterback in NFL history to reach the 5,000 yard mark for passing. There was a great deal of speculation prior to the game if he would be able to play due to injuries he had sustained on his left shoulder. In spite of numerous injuries over the past two years Brady has been able to complete career goals for himself and push forward like an unstoppable machine much to the chagrin of many New Yorkers. Manhattan physician, Dr. Marina Gafanovich is a football fan, however, she also cringes each time she watches players take a spill because she understands from a physician’s perspective just how easy it is to injure bones and other organs in contact sports and not even realize it until weeks later.

“People have different thresholds of pain,” she explains. “Some people know right away with they’ve broken a bone or received some other serious injury, and others for whatever reason do not. They keep going in spite of the pain. In joint injuries tiny fractures can go unnoticed and heal in a manner that is inappropriate and require more invasive surgery later when the patient’s body is less resilient.”

Athletes of all levels, from high school players to the pros, tend to undermine their own health by playing with injured limbs. Some do so because they don’t want to miss an important game, others because their muscles are so strong that they are unaware that a break has even happened. This is why X-Rays in New York are so important in detecting injury.

“You can’t tell from just feeling an area whether a bone has been broken,” Dr. Gafanovich says. “It requires imaging to understand whether or not a break has occurred and how bad that break truly is.”

Brady’s shoulder was cleared by doctors after X-Rays supported the fact that no fractures had taken place with the injury sustained in a previous game and he was given the “OK” to play in the Bills game. Although the game would provide him his place in football history it also made him the victim of four sacks and a knockdown.

American football has a higher injury rate, including death, than any other sport. It is a full contact sport that sees on average 13 catastrophic injuries each year from high school to pro ball and 40,000 concussions suffered each year by high school players.

As a proponent of sports and other physical activities that keep the body’s cardiovascular system in top condition, Dr. Gafanovich finds it difficult to dissuade patients from taking up a game that she both loves and can provide enjoyment and greater physical health. She does, however, want to provide a few cautionary tips to players at all levels:

“Always get an X-ray after every sports injury even if you think it’s ‘just a sprain’,” she advises. “We see patients every day—not just athletes, bike couriers, joggers…grandmothers who have come into our office thinking they’ve pulled or bruised a muscle and what they really accomplished was breaking their bone!”

When in doubt, check it out, is her motto.

Dr. Gafanovich performs a wide variety of laboratory services in her Upper East Side doctor’s practice. Dr. Gafanovich’s office is a fully equipped internal medicine practice with a wide range of laboratory and screening equipment as to provide a comprehensive set of same-day services for her clients and referrals. It was her observation during her internship and early residency that many patients were dissatisfied with having to drive from facility to facility in order to receive a final diagnosis from their medical provider. They wanted a medical “one-stop-shop” without having to go to a hospital for it. Rather than send the patient to a laboratory or separate facility for X-rays, she would bring the laboratory to the patient.

Her desire to create an in-house laboratory and imaging solution for her clients had added benefits aside from good customer service. Dr. Gafanovich is among several leading NYC physicians who believe that the ability to screen internal organs or bone structure while the patient is still in the office enables the physical to catch problems immediately that may translate into an emergency. She gives an example:

“I had a patient who had actually broken a bone, and had no idea. Her pain sensitivity was just not as acute as it ought to be, and based on her verbal input alone I would never have guessed that her problem was a break,” she explains. “Without the ability and opportunity to see the ribcage during that same visit we might have very well missed an opportunity to treat her while the break was still malleable.”

Most New York City doctors would love to have this same ability to perform extended diagnostics within the confines of their practice, but unfortunately many are confined or limited by space constraints and must therefore refer patients to facilities nearby or even across town. Her NYC physician’s practice has screening services ranging from laboratory to cardio-pulmonary, to imaging.

“We’re very lucky,” she admits, “to have a space so accommodating. This is exactly the type of state of the art practice I dreamed about when I first contemplated going on my own.”

Her practice also routinely performs these services as referrals or “second opinions” for other NYC doctors. “We oblige everyone,” Dr. Gafanovich tells us. “If an individual requires an X-ray, we’ll perform the Chest Xray. It’s as simple as that. We don’t turn anyone away. It is my goal, our goal to contribute to the health and wellness of my community here in New York City. If you have a medical concern, come see me.”

Dr. Marina Gafanovich is a board certified internist practicing in the City of New York. She has attending privileges at both New York Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center and at North Shore University Hospital. She has been ranked a #1 Internist in New York by prestigious consumer opinion organizations like “Health Grades”, “Wellness”, “Avvo”, and “CitySearch”.

Her office is located on Dr. Marina Gafanovich, MD – 1550 York Avenue, New York NY 10028 – (212) 249-6218. http://www.mynycdoctor.com

5 Reasons to Make Bottled Water Part of Your Healthy Lifestyle in 2012

5 Reasons to Make Bottled Water Part of Your Healthy Lifestyle in 2012

Enjoy bottled water for a healthy lifestyle

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) January 10, 2012

A New Year marks a perfect time to start new routines, and many of the resolutions people make involve trying to lead healthier lives. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) offers this list of five reasons consumers should make bottled water a part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in 2012.

1.    Choose bottled water for safety and convenience – Available in many different sizes, including 3- and 5-gallon containers used in bottled water coolers, 2.5-gallon refrigerator-size containers, and “on-the go” half-liter (16.9oz), one-liter, and 1.5 liter convenience–size packages, bottled water is always ready to quench your thirst. At home, in the office, or on the move, consumers can drink bottled water with confidence throughout the day. Bottled water is comprehensively regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for safety and quality and it comes sealed in 100 percent recyclable containers. Bottled water is reliable and is always ready to refresh.

2.    Choose bottled water for its great taste – When water tastes better, it’s more likely to be consumed, and staying hydrated is important for your health, even during winter’s colder months. Many people enjoy bottled water because of its crisp, refreshing taste and with options that include spring, mineral, sparkling and purified, bottled water has a lot to offer.

3.    Choose bottled water instead of sugary or caffeinated drinks – According to the Centers for Disease Control, Americans get up to 1/3 of their daily calories from sugary beverages. Making the switch to refreshing zero-calorie bottled water could help reduce up to 700 calories/day or 255,500 calories a year! Drinking water also helps to curb your appetite; a healthy option for reducing calories and maintaining proper hydration

4.    Choose bottled water for its ability to multi-task – Need a cooler pack to bring your lunch to work? Pop a bottled water in the freezer the night before and toss it in your lunch bag as you head out to work. The frozen bottle will chill your meal and then provide a healthy, zero-calorie beverage to enjoy. A bottled water in each hand doubles as weights during a hike or run; handy fitness aids you can consume when you’ve finished your workout.

5.    Choose bottled water because it’s the healthiest choice – Choosing to lead a healthy lifestyle can sometimes mean a lot changes in your life. Opting to drink bottled water makes one of your most important decisions also one of the easiest. Fitness experts recommend staying hydrated throughout the day. What better way to do just that than to choose bottled water when it’s time for a drink?

The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is the authoritative source of information about all types of bottled waters. Founded in 1958, IBWA’s membership includes U.S. and international bottlers, distributors and suppliers. IBWA is committed to working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, and state governments to set stringent standards for safe, high quality bottled water products.

In addition to FDA and state regulations, the Association requires member bottlers to adhere to the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice, which mandates additional standards and practices that in some cases are more stringent than federal and state regulations. A key feature of the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice is an annual plant inspection by an independent, third party organization. Consumers can contact IBWA at 1-800-WATER-11 or log onto IBWA’s web site (http://www.bottledwater.org) for more information about bottled water and a list of members’ brands. Media inquiries can be directed to IBWA Vice President of Communications Chris Hogan at 703-647-4609 or chogan(at)bottledwater(dot)org.

Chicago Boot Camp Keeps Fitness Fun & Productive

Chicago Boot Camp Keeps Fitness Fun & Productive

(PRWEB) January 06, 2012

Wanda Wasserman made the decision to attend Chicago boot camp when she was diagnosed with diverticulitis, on top of the lupus diagnosis she had received a year prior. She knew that she needed to make drastic changes to her life to remain relatively healthy, but she needed a system in place. Over the course of a year, she went from a size 22 to a size 6 and lost 101 pounds. Best of all, her joints, muscle and back pain decreased drastically and she felt great! “Every day I thank God that I made the call,” she says, adding that she has made many wonderful new friends since joining.

Many people are wary about book themselves for a Chicago boot camp class that starts at 5 AM, but are surprised to find that they are “hooked” in no time at all. “At first, I had no exercise tolerance, but after a month I felt so much better. I could breathe easier, move easier and I felt like I had so much energy,” explains Chicago boot camp participant Amy Bullpitt. “It came to a point where I became addicted to exercise instead of food!”

Results go beyond mere weight loss. Individuals often join a Chicago boot camp to improve their overall strength, endurance, and heart health. Sure, many people are losing inches and pounds of fat; but many more are lowering their blood cholesterol levels and lifting heavier weights, not to mention feeling younger and more energized than ever before.

“Anyone can lose five or ten pounds on their own. But the average exerciser hits plateaus where the weight just isn’t coming off anymore and that is where boot camp is most valuable,” explains Chicago boot camp owner Craig Kastning. “Our workouts are intense and based on athletic science to help you continue to lose until you reach your optimal weight. We rev up your metabolism and help you put on lean muscle mass, which ensures you look toned.”

Accountability is a key factor in success, say boot camp Chicago participants. Most boot campers are motivated by the idea of having a trainer and other participants looking out for them. They also make less excuses and stick to their guns with a set schedule in place. Boot camp involves periodic weigh-ins and measuring sessions to track progress. Members who reach their goals are applauded, which improves confidence and motivation levels.

The average group size is about 12 people and Chicago boot camp participants range in age from 18 to 65. The exercises may be modified for easier or more challenging movements, so each workout can be customized to the individual to prevent injury and facilitate progress.
