New Pain Management Technology Will Help Doctors Treat Patients

New Pain Management Technology Will Help Doctors Treat Patients

(PRWEB) January 24, 2006

Danard-Lilly, Corporation, a Southern California medical technology company is rolling out the latest development in pain management and assessment technology.

Currently they are introducing a new pain survey and computerized psychological profiling combination that will help doctors:

     Avoid Misdiagnosis

    Decrease Patient Recovery Time

    Lower Insurance Costs

    Improve Practice Profitability

Doctors need better tools to treat their patients.

Traditional pain management and pain assessment tools are weak at best. They simply fail to bridge the communication gap between doctor and patient. This makes any treatment less effective, and increases patient time to recovery.

There is a better way.

Danard-Lilly provides a comprehensive pain management and assessment that includes the McGill Pain Inventory, which the patient can easily fill out in about 15 minutes. An easy to use computerized psychological pain profiling report is generated which doctors can use to track and analyze patient responses.

This new computerized pain assessment bridges the communication gap between Doctor and patient, so both sides have a better understanding of what the other is communicating.

The patient learns a better way to communicate with their doctor.

The doctor gets a better tool for diagnosing the patients’ problem.

Analysis is objective rather than subjective.

The psychological pain assessment is based on decades of clinical research into the psychological aspects of pain management and assessment. This level of communication leads to more precise diagnosis, which results in better determination in the initial and continuing choice of treatment.

Participate in a free pain assessment clinical trial today.

Danard-Lilly, Corporation, for a limited time, is providing a one time free clinical trial of their Psychological Pain Assessment to qualifying medical clinics and doctors. To find out if you qualify call Danard Lilly’s Corporate office at (714) 385-1136.

No Pain, Your Gain — September is Pain Awareness Month

No Pain, Your Gain — September is Pain Awareness Month

Belleville, IL (Vocus) September 8, 2010

Pain is a leading cause of disability in the United States, according to Allsup, a nationwide provider of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) representation and Medicare plan selection services. September is Pain Awareness Month, and Allsup supports the American Pain Foundation’s (APF) virtual march on Washington to raise awareness about the barriers to accessing appropriate and effective pain management and the desperate need to improve pain care for all Americans.

There are two basic types of pain — acute and chronic. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke characterizes them as follows:

Acute pain, for the most part, results from disease, inflammation, or injury to tissues. This type of pain generally comes on suddenly, for example, after trauma or surgery, and may be accompanied by anxiety or emotional distress. The cause of acute pain can usually be diagnosed and treated, and the pain is self-limiting — confined to a given period of time and severity. In some rare instances, it can become chronic.

Chronic pain is widely believed to represent disease itself. It can be made much worse by environmental and psychological factors. Chronic pain persists over a longer period of time than acute pain and is resistant to most medical treatments. It can — and often does — cause severe problems for patients.

Pain is an all too common secondary condition for people with disabilities. For example, nearly half of people with multiple sclerosis have chronic pain, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

People who are paralyzed often have what is called neurogenic pain resulting from damage to nerves in the spinal cord. For some survivors of spinal cord injury, pain or an intense burning or stinging sensation is unremitting due to hypersensitivity in some parts of the body.

The National Fibromyalgia Association cites chronic widespread body pain as the primary symptom of fibromyalgia. The pain has been described as stabbing and shooting pain and deep muscular aching, throbbing, and twitching.

Whatever the source or type, unrelieved pain causes suffering, can lead to other health problems, and delays recovery, thereby adding unnecessarily to health care costs, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. If a person is unable to continue working because of pain, it can have a catastrophic financial impact.

Organizations like the MS Society and National Fibromyalgia Association encourage patients to talk to their healthcare providers and ask about their pain management options. They may include simple analgesics (pain-relievers) like acetaminophen, aspirin or non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS); or nonpharmacological treatments and alternative therapies, such as stretching and movement therapies, gentle massage, heat, exercises, hydrotherapy and relaxation techniques.

Knowing your financial options and taking stock of your available resources, including health insurance and SSDI benefits can help address the significant financial impact of not being able to work due to pain.

“Understanding your expenses and identifying sources of available income are important first steps to minimizing financial problems,” said Paul Gada, personal financial planning director for the Allsup Disability Life Planning Center. “Taking advantage of all the benefits you are entitled to can save you money, improve your healthcare and reduce stress.”

In addition to joining the virtual march on Washington, you can help promote pain awareness and treatment by sending Pain Awareness Month E-Cards to family, friends, caregivers and healthcare providers. The National Fibromyalgia Association’s FM Aware magazine is sponsoring the free service in honor of Pain Awareness month. Visitors to http://www.fmaware.org can send cards throughout September.

American Pain Society Conference Sheds Light on Critical Challenges in Pain Management

American Pain Society Conference Sheds Light on Critical Challenges in Pain Management

Newton, MA (PRWEB) May 6, 2009

On May 7-9, the American Pain Society (APS) will hold its 28th Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego, California. The meeting brings together pain scientists and health care professionals to discuss the latest findings related to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute pain, chronic cancer and non-cancer pain, and recurrent pain. Inflexxion, a company that creates scientifically validated solutions for critical areas of health care, is presenting a poster to introduce painACTION.com, an online resource to help patients self-manage chronic pain.

“The APS conference is especially relevant right now, when we’re starting to see important innovations in pain treatment and management emerging in response to critical challenges, such as the rise of prescription pain medication misuse, abuse, and overdose,” says Kevin Zacharoff, M.D., Director of Medical Affairs at Inflexxion. “The painACTION website is designed to serve as a daily resource for patients with chronic pain conditions, while at the same time providing clinicians with a useful tool for increasing the quality of care – including ensuring that their patients understand how to take prescription pain medications safely.”

Developed with grant support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), painACTION is a non-promotional website that provides unbiased information on self-managing pain. It leverages innovative technology, including a “smart” recommendation engine that delivers customized content to individuals, based on a user’s pain profile, the information the individual has viewed, and psychosocial assessments.

To complement the guidance that clinicians provide during office visits, painACTION also offers multimedia lessons, tools, and articles on taking pain medications appropriately and safely, with an entire risk management curriculum devoted specifically to opioids.

Finally, painACTION provides specialized tools to empower patients in self-managing pain. Users can track their pain with an online Daily Pain Tracker, and print out charts to share with their health care provider. They can also complete skill-based lessons for self-managing their specific pain condition, with learning modules for managing cancer pain, back pain, and migraine pain.

“We view resources such as painACTION to be a critical piece of the pain self-management puzzle,” says Emil Chiauzzi, Ph.D., a Principal Investigator in the project and Vice President of Product Strategy at Inflexxion. “It is important that people in pain build the daily coping skills to complement formal medical treatment, and utilizing the Internet affords consistent and reliable access to such information.”

The ongoing dissemination of painACTION is supported by Endo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and King Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Revolutionary New Treatment for Back Pain in Monmouth County

Revolutionary New Treatment for Back Pain in Monmouth County

Red Bank, NJ (PRWEB) September 30, 2010

As the population ages, pain is on the rise. More specifically, back pain has become the most common reason that patients visit a doctor for pain-related complaints. It’s unfortunate, then, that the pain management and rehabilitation process is often a scattered, confusing ordeal that forces patients to visit a number of different offices to see a medical doctor, physical therapist, acupuncturist, massage therapist, and/or chiropractic doctor. In most cases, these practitioners have little or no communication with one another, resulting in an incoherent and ineffective treatment plan.

Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Center is changing this treatment model by incorporating medical care for pain management; physical therapy; acupuncture; massage therapy; and chiropractic care in one location. The goal of this type of treatment is to reduce pain, increase movement, and rehabilitate patients without surgery. To do so, the practitioners at our Red Bank, NJ office work in close collaboration with each other to ensure the best possible care for each patient.

Our Monmouth County office’s Medical Director, Dr. Joseph Mejia, D.O., is a specialist in pain management and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. He is board certified in Pain Management and Rehabilitation (PM&R). His role is to act as the head of a team of professionals to help back pain patients rehabilitate through physical therapy and the other modalities offered at the facility. Back pain patients may receive any of the following treatments under the supervision of Dr. Mejia:

Spinal Decompression for Back Pain: This therapy has helped many back pain patients avoid surgery by reducing the pressure on compressed nerves to alleviate pain. It is also used to reverse the damage of herniated or bulged discs;

Back Pain Relief through Physical Therapy: This modality is used to increase mobility and lessen pain while building the strength necessary to avoid future back pain issues;

Acupuncture and Back Pain: Using ancient Chinese medical theories, acupuncture is an extremely effective method of reducing back pain. It stimulates the body to harness the natural ability to fight pain. For example, acupuncture prompts the release of endorphins, which are produced by the body and have opiate-like properties;

Massage Therapy: Deep Tissue Massage applies direct pressure to the soft tissues of the back to release tension and pain; and/or

Chiropractic Care for Back Pain: Back pain patients can benefit from chiropractic in two main ways: chiropractic increases motion in the joints of the spine to re-establish normal movement while realigning the spine to reduce pain and inflammation.

When patients are experiencing debilitating pain that inhibits the rehabilitation process, the medical doctor at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Center may administer one of a number of minimally invasive procedures involving the injection of a long-lasting steroid and/or anesthetic numbing agent. For back pain sufferers, these may include Epidural Steroid Injections, Trigger Point Injections; Sacroiliac Injections, and Coccyx Injections (among others). This strategy helps to relieve back pain and start the rehabilitation process.

For people experiencing back pain in Monmouth County, Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Center is located in Red Bank, NJ and is currently accepting new patients. Please contact Monmouth Pain and Rehab at 732-345-1377 or visit our Web site at monmouthspine.com.
